Fit and Sewing Clinic for Adults with Jennifer Serr
These special classes are ideal for intermediate and advanced sewists . Sewing Room Owner, Jennifer Serr, assists students with fitting issues, pattern corrections, garment construction and more! If you are interested in pattern making or pattern fixing, this is the class to get you started or progress you to the next level of understanding.
Fitting your own clothing often takes an extra set of eyes and hands. This class offers a great opportunity to get help from an expert, and also to learn from other people's projects as well as your own. Students bring a project which includes pattern (unless they are making one), fabric and thread. They may also purchase something in our store.

Learn to Sew your own Bras!
Friday Nov 2 & Sunday Nov 4th
9am-3pm Friday / 10-4pm Sunday
In this two-day workshop, instructor Linda Sepeda walks you through the process of sewing your own bra. Linda uses a Beverly Johnson Pin Up Girls Classic underwire bra pattern & each student will be measured for correct size.
In this class, you will receive:
Sewing instruction & demonstrations for how to sew your bra
Personal assistance from Linda with your individual bra
All the materials you will need to make your bra - Fabric, elastic, underwires, findings & more ($40 value) (There is usually enough fabric to make two bras but you will need to buy an extra set of findings if you want to make a second one)(all students will make a "Beige" color for this first bra)
It shouldn't hurt to wear a bra. Nor should wearing a bra cause "divots" in the shoulder area or the rib cage. Many women wear the wrong size bra, and doing that can hurt for a number of reasons. It can also affect circulation and cause numbness. The shoulders and back can hurt. Wires could constrict or poke. A properly sized bra can alleviate many of these conditions, and might even make you look younger and slimmer.
If you think you might be wearing the wrong size, have pain when you wear a bra or have trouble finding the right size when shopping, this is a great opportunity to learn how to make your very own bras.
Linda Sepeda is owner of Violet's Valentines - She fits, makes custom bras and teaches others to make their own. Linda trained in Canada having studied and received a Bra fitting and design certificate from -The School of Sewing Arts & Design, Hamilton. Linda has extensive knowledge of Mastectomy and nursing bras, Asymmetry, Prostheses, Shapewear & Other unique foundation garment needs.
Experience Needed: You should be able to operate a sewing machine, sew straight lines and curved lines and know how to sew opposable curves. There is no special machinery needed and all tools will be provide.
There is also an option for a custom fit bra pattern that will be created based off of your exact body measurements, using the same pattern as others in the class. This fit session will take place on Sunday, October 21st and takes about 45 minutes. There will be a $50 charge for this custom fit and we will set up appoints beginning at 12pm. You can choose this option when registering for the class and we can schedule a private fitting just for you.

Sew Powerful Purse Project
Come on down to The Sewing Room to Support our #SewPowerful purse project!
You are invited to join us for a Purse Event on Saturday November 25th 10am-1pm. This is a sewing event. We will be sewing the Version A purse. Adults and Teens only for this event. The complexity of the bag involves quite a bit of concentration. We are excited to sew these bags for you!
Did you know Girls in Africa can miss up to 5 weeks of school because of their periods? These bags will help KEEP THE GIRLS IN SCHOOL. The bags we make (along with many others from around the world) will be given to girls in African villages along with re-usable sanitary supplies and training for how to use them.
This year we have a goal of donating 100 bags. Please work with us to achieve our goal!
Additionally, The Sewing Room would love your Support in one of the following ways:
-Monetary Donations - Each bag costs about $5 to send to Africa and $5 to fill with sanitary supplies. We are donating our time and fabric to this process but would love the financial support to help us acheive our goal.
-Light-Medium weight Cotton Fabrics - We have fabric to use, but could always use more. Bright, colorful fabrics are the best!
-Already sewn bags - You can download the free sewing pattern at http://sewpowerful.org/ and make the bag at home.
-Spread the WORD - Share this event and this project on Social Media!!! We need all the help we can get to provide a better life for these girls!
